NC White Water Rafting

Whitewater Rafting NC

Traveling to Western North Carolina and not experiencing White Water Rafting is like going to Paris and not seeing the Eiffel Tower. It is the top adventure activity in the state and Western North Carolina has some of the best. Sunset Farm Cabins is located about 20 minutes from the Nantahala Gorge where most of the rafting companies operate. Renting one of our convenient NC Cabins will provide you and your guests with a comfortable and spacious home base in the mountains. After a hard day bouncing and playing on the water you can come and relax in one of our hot-tubs to sooth your muscles.

White Water Rafting options range from mild to wild depending on your desires.

  • The Nantahala River is the most popular for rafting on the more mild side with class II & III rapids to experience. This is perfect for beginners, families with younger children, or anybody wanting to experience a great body of water.

  • The Ocoee River in East Tennessee offers the "Middle" and "Upper" portions that will include class III & IV rapids with names like Table Saw, Broken Nose, Double Trouble, Double Suck and Powerhouse. This is the river that hosted the 1996 Olymic Canoe and Kayak course.

  • The Chattooga River located near the North Carolina/Georgia border about 1 hour from your rental cabin at Sunset Farm Cabins also has class III & IV rapids.

  • The French Broad River near Asheville is a Family-Friendly experience similar to the Nantahala River. Participant's will experience class II & III rapids down the third oldest river in the world. This flows through the Pisgah National Forest with half-day and a full-day option that will include a class IV rapid called Frank Bell's.

  • The Nolichucky River is a free-flowing river that relies on rains instead of dam releases. It is located about 50 miles north of Asheville and 15 miles south of Johnson City, TN. Participants have options that include Full-Day, Express, Ducky, and Float Trips ranging in rapids from I & II on the float to class III & IV in the Gorge Full-Day, Express, and Ducky.

  • The Pigeon River is located near Gatlinburg on the other side of the Smoky Mountains and offers riders class III & IV rapids that flow along the eastern border of the Park.

  • The Cheoah River is only for experienced and thrill seeking individuals. The outpost is located near Robbinsville, NC but this river is only available to run a handful of days each year. Companies require previous experience as running these class IV & V rapids can be very dangerous for inexperienced riders.
