Great Smoky Mountain Railway
For guests at Sunset Farm Cabins looking to experience a true popular pastime, the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad will not disappoint. Operating year round with many themed events for children and adults to enjoy this Train Ride in North Carolina is one of the most participated in activities in Western North Carolina. The history of the tracks date back to the 1800's when the Murphy Branch of the railroad delivered mountaineers from the wilderness of their landlocked hills. The railroad changed their way of life and guests today can experience some of the 53 miles of track, 2 tunnels, and 25 bridges while aboard the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad.
Participants have the option of two scenic excursions including the Nantahala Gorge or the Tuckasegee River route.
GRSM recommends arriving 1 hour prior to your departure time.
The Great Smoky Mountain Railway offers guests a handful of seating options to accommodate different desires. These include First Class, Family First Class, Crown Class, Coach Class, Open Air Gondola, and Locomotive Cab Rides. Additional items and food can be purchased separately.
Railroad enthusiasts and history buffs worldwide will gather for RAILFEST and Mountain Craft Fair! Motor car rides and display, storytelling, singing, dancing and mountain folk music are all part of this spectacular railroading event.
