The nearly 500 miles the parkway stretches through North Carolina and Virginia displays an array of history including Appalachian culture by observing overlook signs, visitor center exhibits, restored historic structures, and developed areas, all of which reveal points of particular interest.

The shortest option if you are tight on time is entering in Cherokee and exiting either at highway 19 or continuing a little further and exiting at the Smoky Mountain Parkway (highway 74). Either of these exits can bring you back west toward the Cabins.
